The celebration will reach its pinnacle on June 2 with the Chicago House Music Festival in Millennium Park from 10am-9pm. The Jay Pritzker Pavilion main stage will feature performances by Tony Touch, ANANÉ, Ash Lauryn, Karizma, and Wayne Williams and Alan King of the Chosen Few DJs. The North Promenade will host the Queer Fam Pride Jam, a youth and queer family-friendly event produced by Slo ‘Mo and Kido from 10am-1pm, followed by sets from top local DJs presented by Viva Acid until 9pm.

Keeping the same slowed-down house beats as Kwaito, adding jazzy piano riffs, synths, and percussive basslines, Amapiano has become the new youth movement from South Africa, catching fire all over the US as well.

Four days of free events will culminate in the Chicago House Music Festival taking place in Millennium Park all in celebration of the popular genre that was born in Chicago in 1984. House Music 40 is a non-profit organization to raise awareness of the significant contributions made by Chicago House Music artists to the global music landscape while providing financial support for Chicago House Music DJs facing ongoing health concerns. Earlier this week, “The Warehouse,” a 113-year-old West Loop building considered to be the birthplace of house music, became a Chicago landmark. The festival is also bringing back its silent disco, which gives festival-goers a unique personal dance party experience to enjoy with their headphones.
